Driving Global Demand: Vietnam’s Rice Exports Soar to $5.3 Billion in 2024
Vietnam’s Rice Export reached an all-time high of $5.3 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, a 22.4% increase year-on-year. This achievement is driven by a focus on high-quality rice production, with 95% of varieties meeting export standards. The competitive average price of $627 per ton has helped Vietnam maintain its position as a global leader in rice exports.
The Philippines continues to dominate as the largest importer of Vietnamese rice, holding 46.1% of the market share, followed by Indonesia and Malaysia. Meanwhile, Vietnam imported $1.24 billion worth of rice from Myanmar, Pakistan, and Cambodia to meet domestic demand for low-cost rice used in food production. This balanced approach ensures supply stability for local markets while fulfilling international commitments.
Looking ahead, Vietnam’s rice industry is prioritizing sustainable rice production through initiatives like the “1 Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice” project. By combining innovation and sustainability, Vietnam is set to strengthen its global competitiveness and solidify its leadership in the international rice market.
